Written soon after the events of the story and republished through the years, this is a very interesting true story about the Chisolm family in Kemper County Mississippi. As a descendant of the Chisolm family, I was very intrigued to read this. I love history, but when it is your own family history, it takes it to the next level. (Even if you aren't a Chisolm, I think you will like this book. I was told it was at one time required reading in the public schools of MS.) It is a little difficult to read due to the language of the times in the 1870's being a little flowery compared to today's spoken language. But, I think it gives a good picture of how the times were back then during a very rough time in our history.
