I am using these outside in the light fixtures next to my front door. There are no instructions on how to use the app, and in particular I found it difficult to use the scheduling function. I connected 6 bulbs 3 at a time and then grouped them without too much difficulty. Once grouped, I wanted to schedule an on/off time daily. This became confusing, as each individual bulb has a schedule button, the group I created for the 6 bulbs has a schedule button, and the "Smart" button at the bottom of the app has a scheduling function on its "Automation" tab. As best I can tell, the Smart/Automation scheduling process is the one that works. So I first hit the "Smart" button at the bottom of the app and made sure I was on the "automation" tab. Here, I hit the "+" button on the upper right corner of the page, and then selected "schedule." On the next screen, I select a time I wanted to schedule (even though it doesn't yet tell me what bulbs I am scheduling and whether I am scheduling them to be on or off yet), and then I hit the "repeat" tab on that page to indicate how often I want the event to occur (Again, no indication of what the event is yet). I selected all 7 days of the week from the repeat tab and then hit the back arrow. Then I hit "Next at the top of the page. On the next page, I selected "run the device," where I got to indicate which bulb or group of bulbs I was trying to schedule. I chose my group, which took me to another page. Now I get to select whether the time I input in the first step was for on or off by hitting the "on/off" button. This gives me a pop up window to select either on or off (I chose on), and then had to hit the save button on the popup. This took the pop up away, and sent me back to the prior page where there are also buttons for Brightness, Color Temp and Timer. I did not use these buttons, so I then hit "Next" at the top of the page. This took me to a recap page with more buttons, and another save button at the bottom of the page. When you hit this save button, you get another pop up asking if you want to start using the automation that you created. Easy, Right? This takes care of the on time, and now you have to go back through the whole process again to set the off time. Maybe there is an easier way to do this, but there is no documentation available to tell me - I used trial and error to get to where I did. There is really no reason this should be so difficult - the design of the app should make it easier to achieve. This seems like way too much work to set a schedule for a simple on/off function. Using the app to control the lights directly seems OK, and you can turn a light or a group on individually, change the color temp when white, or change the color altogether, and change the brightness. So if you are not trying to schedule, the app would probably be pretty easy to use to control the lights directly. The lights seem to work OK and do what they are supposed to do, but I had to take one star off for the lack of documentation for the app and the difficulty in using it for scheduling on and off times.Lights were incredibly easy to set-up using the Smart Life app for iOS. The lights also offer Hue or Wiz compatible color choices including whites in different hues.Set up: As is typical with most smart bulbs, the power has to be recycled three times to put them in set up mode. I was able to install all seven candelabra type bulbs and have the app recognize them the first try using the apps add lights and then auto search method. As opposed to only powering one at a time to add into the app as has been my experience with other brands. If you have a router with 2.4 and 5 ghz option, make sure your phone is connected to your 2.4 ghz connection for set up.After setting up the bulbs I renamed each bulb “master overhead 1” through seven and then created a group entitled master overhead. This allowed me to turn of the entire collection of bulbs -with a single command - you can also control each bulb in the fixture separately. However, and I mention this again below, when you import the bulbs by discovering them in the Alexa app you will see all of the bulbs but you will have to organize them into a room or group again in Alexa. In fact, if you don’t want to create a group twice and only plan on using the Alexa app then you need not do this for the Smart Life app.To add the bulbs into the Alexa app, I opened up the Alexa app and went to devices, add, lights. I selected “other” for brand and then selected the auto discover function. I have to say that I have had smart bulbs for several years now and being an early adopter the Alexa app did not initially seem to recognize or import bulbs so easily but Amazon has really improved the app. So this was smooth sailing.I also purchased these bulbs for my dining roomchandelier because of the availability in the candleabra style. Hue sells a candleabra bulb with a single bulb costing approximately $49 each. The price, quality and functionality make purchasing this brand a no brainer - unless you like wasting money. Personally, since Philips launched its Wiz series, I have stopped buying Hue bulbs altogether. Additionally, my Echo show has a built in hub which makes things so much easier as you don’t need a Hue bridge. In addition to these bulbs, the Smart Life app seems to have the ability to control just about every smart home device under the sun. However, I am not sure if Amazon would recognize them all or if you need a special hub as is the case with some products. For me, the whole point is to have voice control over the lights with an Echo dot, or show. The Smart Life app is a little bit clunky as far as picking colors and automating settings - but again, if you can also control them in the Alexa app then it’s a moot point. Again, the Alexa app will not import “groups” from Smart Life so you will have to create your own rooms or groups within Alexa to have voice control over a group of bulbs. Ergo, you can skip grouping the lights in the Smart Life app because you will just have to redo it in Alexa.Light was extremely easy to set up with the Smart Life app and very easy to integrate with Alexa. Highly recommend!
