The unit seems like it was made with quality materials, and it works as advertised. The wort pump operates totally silently. The boiler heats as quickly as our gas stove. The integrated grain pot fits snugly, filters flawlessly, and was easy to use. The unit will be second to none when the manufacturer syncs the thermostat with an independent thermometer or demands that the customer do the same prior to first use. While using the unit for the first time yesterday, I found the integrated thermometer was off by about six degrees Fahrenheit. That’s terrible when brewing an all grain recipe that requires precision in the rest period temperatures. The manual tells how to adjust the indicated temperature, but it’s too late once the brew begins. Secondly, the operator’s manual is anything but robust. No electrical schematics, no parts list, poor quality pictures to illustrate the assembly process, although it was easy to assemble. No company phone number to forward questions to. The troubleshooting section of the manual tells the customer to contact their ‘dealer’ for replacement of the part. My dealer was Amazon. Enough said. And lastly, the pump outlet, spigot, and chiller coil all use different sizes of tubing. No adapters provided. Knowing all this now and not prior to purchase, I’d still buy the unit again.Update: After five uses, I'm having my first problem: the heating element has semi-failed, causing the unit to take approximately two hours to reach boil. Since I was in the middle of the brewing process, I had no choice but to wait it out. I will see if I'm able to get warranty service. I'm assuming the heating element is made from two separate coils, and one has failed. The included manual lists a warranty website that doesn't exist. All other functions have worked well. Unlike other reviews I've read here, I've experienced scorching when using the pump at the same time the heating element was heating. This is due to the pump emptying the wort reservoir before the liquid is replaced as it seeps through the grain. However, NOT bathing the grain means reducing efficiency beyond acceptable.2nd Update: Warranty service was outstanding. Both Amazon and Berlin Brands (the supplier) honored the warranty and provided immediate service. I'm a totally satisfied customer at this point and highly recommend this unit. After a couple of uses, the system features become very intuitive and simple. All of my brews have been amongst my best ever. I'd rate the unit a 5 except for the issues originally covered above.3rd Update: A brewing issue that may come up with any user new to this type of brewing system is stuck mash. When this happens, sparge water seeps too slowly through the mash kettle, allowing for scorching on the kettle bottom above the heating elements, and reduced enzyme efficiency which lowers the sugar extraction. ANSWER: ALWAYS use rice hulls (2 to 4 cups) regardless of the types of grains being mashed. The sparge water flows much more freely through the mash kettle bottom during grain washing with the use of rice hulls. If you are one of the rare kitchen brew masters, the Klarstein will up your brewing quality faster than you can say slainte. Just finished up my third five gallon batch and I can't imagine going back to the kitchen. The controls can be daunting at first, but remember, you can input everything manually, regulating temperature, time and wattage. For all or partial grain brewers, this is a good first step. The circulating pump sparges effortlessly. One item that needs a creative solution concerns removing the grain basket when the mash is done. If you use, let's say, 14 pounds of grain, it's going to weigh a lot more after soaking. First time around I had to stand on the table top to lift it out. I have since rigged a small block and tackle to the ceiling, and now I can pull the grain basket out with ease. The Klarstein is easy to clean and a good value. It sure beats the stove top.First use. It's good and easy to use, it takes a lot more time to boil compared to gas. So manage your time accordingly. The recirculating mechanism is nice. We'll see if it lasts a long timeIt showed up at 5:30 PM. I unboxed it and assembled the few parts that need to be assembled and did my first brew. (I had milled my malt while waiting for it to arrive.) The temperature control is sensitive and does not have the ability to reach "boiling" temperature at my elevation with 5.5 gallons of liquid. Luckily, it will boil at 209°F and will reach a higher temp than this. You just have to adjust the target temp to "boiling" and once it starts to boil, reduce the target temp to a true boiling temperature (which varies by elevation ) in order to start the boil timer. Cleanup was a breeze and it took like a half-hour. I was finished brewing at 1:00 am. I will not start a brew doing all-grain in this after 3:00 PM, but I had to try out my new toy. I also spent almost an hour sanitizing and testing the boil before brewing, so it took probably 5.5 hours for a first time in this for me. Buy or sanitize enough 1/4" i.d. tubing for the in and out port on the chiller separately, as well as a barbed fitting to connect the in-line to a water source such as a faucet. (I used my sink.) Has enough capability for my occasional amateur brewing. I'm definitely happy I didn't get a more expensive one.The direction suck but once you figure it out it does a good job. Pretty large learning curve. This is my first electric kettle as I'm starting up all grain. It even came with an immersion chiller so I didn't have to buy one. I found the instruction manual almost worthless, but its not particularly hard to set up. The only things that stood out was one of the posts for the top grain screen didn't want the screw to go in. I couldn't see any thread issues so I worked the screw on slowly and now it seems just fine. It also included a 90 degree silicone part that I'm really not sure what it is for, and I don't see any mention of it in the manual.I did an initial cleaning and tested out the heating and everything went super smooth. I still had an extract beer kit sitting around so I brewed that up inside for the first use. I poured some of DME into a clean bucket and then pumped some of the wort in to mix it around before adding it all back in. I did the DME in 2 passes and the LME in one like this and it all mixed well with no scorching, clumping, or anything. Now I'm just waiting to find out how that brew turned out. I have many more full all grain brews on the list waiting for kegs to open up and I'm excited to use this thing some moreIch bewerte hier die große 50L Version und habe bereits mehrere Sude erfolgreich durchgezogen.
